As a Muslim still breathing whether you are one of the pilgrims or not, it is worth knowing the virtues of the day of Arafah, because of the blessings of the day. The Day of Arafah is the day on which Allah perfected Islam and His Favour was completed.

You should first know how great the day of Arafah is, to do that here’s the word of Umar (one of the companions of the prophet).

Its The Day Of Eid For The Pilgrims

It was reported in Al-Saheehayn: Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allaah be pleased with him), a Jewish man said to him, “O Ameer al-Mu’mineen, there is an ayah in your Book which you recite; if it had come to us Jews, we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid (festival).” ‘Umar said, “Which ayah?”

He said: (This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.) — al-Maa’idah 5:3

‘Umar said, “We know on which day and in which place that was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It was when he was standing in ‘Arafah on a Friday.”

With that question from a Jewish man, who, as the report outlined, knows the true value of the day of Arafah. However, you should by now know that the day of Arafah is an important part of the Islamic religion. But that is not all, virtues of the day of Arafah is numerous and below is another.

Its The Day Of Eid For The Pilgrims

Another virtue of the day of Arafah is that it’s the day of Eid for those who are there performing Hajj.

Likewise, it worth outline for you that the activities of Arafah for those performing Hajj is part of the Hajj itself. This should guide your intuition that the day of Arafah is very important as reported by the Prophet (PBUH).

The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Yawm ‘Arafah (the day of ‘Arafah), Yawm al-Nahr (the Day of Sacrifice) and Ayyaam al-Tashreeq (the 3 days following Yawm al-Nahr) are Eid (festival) for us, the people of Islam. These are days of eating and drinking.” This hadith was narrated by the authors of al-Sunan.

Similarly, It was reported that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab said: “It (the ayah) ‘This day I have perfected…’ was revealed on a Friday, the Day of ‘Arafah, both of which – praise be to Allaah – are Eids for us.”

That said, it’s like gaining tons of Allah’s blessing. The prophet (PBUH) said starting from that day of Arafah and three more days after it – are Eid (festival) for us, the people of Islam. And Umar ibn al-Khattab also affirm that the day the ayat in al-Maa’idah 5:3 was revealed was on Friday, while that day was also the day of Arafah.

What a great blessing to the Muslim Umma. In fact, Allah (SWT) showed us an example of how virtues are the day of Arafah.

Allah Swore An Oath By The Day Of Arafah

Honestly, you should think about, if Allah (SWT) that rule over all existence swore by something day, you should know without any doubt, how mighty the day of Arafah is. Because it was said that Yawm ‘Arafah is the “witnessed day” mentioned in the ayah al-Burooj.

“By the witnessing day [Friday] and by the witnessed day [the Day of ‘Arafaah].”  – al-Burooj 85:3.

Similar to the Quran verse about Yawm ‘Arafah above. Is the report from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (PBUH) said: “The promised day is the Day of Resurrection, the witnessed day is the Day of ‘Arafah, and the witnessing day is Friday.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi and classed as Saheeh by al-Albaani.

In the same sense, Allah swore in another ayah, in the Quran, in which Allah swore by the “odd” and “even”. The ayat is outlined below.

“And by the even and the odd” [al-Fajr 89:3].

However, Ibn ‘Abbaas said: “The event is the Day of al-Adhaa (10th Dhoo’l-Hijjah) and the odd is the Day of ‘Arafah (9th Dhoo’l-Hijjah) This is also the view of ‘Ikrimah and al-Dahhaak.

That been said, there are still more virtues of Yawm ‘Arafah, that is why I suggest you read the second of the Virtues of the day of Arafah.
